Traveler’s Gift Book summary and notes

Hi friends, Today I am going to share the book summary of “Traveler Gift” by Andy Andrews.

This is the transformation story of a person who tried to quit his life, but during qoma, he met seven biblical and historical figures who gave him different advice, and after awakening, he implemented those seven lessons in his life to improve his quality of life.

The story of a person who is in his mid-40s is about almost failure in everything. His daughter was in the hospital, full of debt. He was in desperate need of money for his only daughter, but due to stress and aggression, he was fired from his job. In total disappointment, he started to think that, due to his inability to meet the needs and expectations of his family, he should quit his life. He thinks that is the only way to provide a better future for his family. After his death, his wife will find a good husband, and that person will take care of his girl. On a cold winter night, he hit his car into a tree. As a result, he went to Comma.

During this period, he met many historical and biblical figures, and he even met himself in the future.

All these people gave him their wisdom. I am going to share this wisdom. And if we apply this wisdom to our lives, our future is bright, regardless of our age.

Lesson 1: Harry S. Truman: The buck stops here.

David met first with Harry Truman. Harry Truman talks about how the first lesson is to accept the responsibility of life.

You have to accept the resuscitation of the choice you made in the past. Responsibility for who you are now is a result of your past choices. Our actions are directed by our thinking. If we want to have a different future, we have to make different choices. We have different ways of thinking and acting. We stop blaming our present situation on our parents, friends, wives, and relatives. We have to accept responsibility for our thoughts and actions. We consider every problem an opportunity to grow and learn.

The past is gone, but the future is still in our hands.

Lesson 2: King Solomon: I will seek wisdom.

In his second visit, David meets biblical figure King Solomon. He advised David to seek

wisdom.

How to prepare for the future is by seeking wisdom and taking responsibility.

Most of the time, we took inspiration from the people with whom we spent time. If we take

company of cursed and complaining people, we also develop a victim mindset.

It is a common saying that we are the average of five people with whom we are associated in life.

We have to guard our association. Intentionally or unintentionally, we follow our mentor in life. For example, Solomon explains that his father was his mentor. Your teacher, uncle, actor, or any other figure will possibly be mentioned. So seek wisdom from their lives.

We have to take the present problems as challenges, and facing these challenges will result in a better future. We have to increase our wisdom by reading books, watching YouTube videos, listening to podcasts, and observing and studying the lives of successful people.

Seeking wisdom to overcome the thoughts, doubts, and fears in life

Lesson 3: Col. Joshua Chamberlain: I am a person of action.

Third wisdom. David got it from Joshua Chamberlain, who taught David that the only solution to all problems is to take action.

Take charge and take action. Even if we do not have all the necessary resources, we can still take action. What is best possible? We have to. Many times, we did not take action and stayed in the same location. In life, we take decisions quickly and do not let change happen. They take decisions and start taking actions. With these actions, they will no longer be afraid.

They did not fear other people’s opinions, gossip, idle chatter, or all those things.

For men of action, failure is a myth. Failure exists only for the person who quits.

Lesson 4: Christopher Columbus: I have a decided heart

The fourth lesson David learned from Columbus was to have a detached heart and ignore what people think about him.

The truth is the truth, whatever the situation. The truth is never dependent on the opinions of others.

Many people did not make efforts to change due to fear of the opinions of others and were doomed to mediocrity.

If you worry about what other people think of you, which results in you having more confidence in them than in yourself, poor is the man whose future depends on the opinions and permission of others. The only solution to criticism is that you will die doing nothing.

To achieve something, you must have a decisive heart. Many people fail because they lack a decisive heart. They are not committed from the heart.

“Most people fail at whatever they attempt because of an undecided heart. Should I? Should I not? Go forward? Go back? Success requires the emotional balance of a committed heart.

“Getting started, getting finished—both ends of a journey require a demonstration of passion.”

Passion only comes from the heart. Its product is a heart decision.

Lesson 5: Anne Frank: Today I will choose to be happy.

In his next visit, David meets Anne Frank. She provides her way to always stay happy, regardless of the situation.

Whatever condition we have or whatever challenges we are facing, it’s up to us to stay happy.

What ever is in us that takes us to the top, instead of what color or race we belong to?

Happyness is the result of certain thoughts and activities, which are actually chemical reactions.

In body. So we have to focus on these thoughts, which makes us happy.

The smile is our calling card.

Many times in life, we have to face injustices based on color, race, and nationality. But absolutely, what matters is what is inside us. It’s like a balloon; whatever its color or size, it goes up due to what’s inside it. It does matter what we think. Similary, we have to choose what we think to be.

Lesson 6: Abraham Lincoln: I will greet this day with a forgiving spirit.

On his next trip, David meets the present Abhraim Licon. Lincon described how important it is to have a forgiving spirit.

People make mistakes, either intentionally or unintentionally. Hurt us. If we are in a leadership position, we have to deal with people. We can use their strength only when we are able to forgive them. They make mistakes and make wrong decisions.

Lincon takes David to the graveyard. It shows that our hearts are like graveyards. You have to bury disappointment, anger, frustation, misbehavior, and other things here. As in the past, all events that occurred in the past are now dead; bury them.

The only way to become a good husband, father, or leader is to forgive others.

In a similar way, when someone hurts us or does not meet our expectations, we become angry. When we were going to sleep, those moments came into our minds. And we did not get good sleep.

There are two types of forgiveness we require: forgiving ourselves for our mistakes and failures Why? Because, instead of focusing on future outcomes, we were struck by the past. The second is unconditional forgiveness for others.

We all have failures in life and in business, but we all have success in our lives. But if we are still thinking about failure, we will not stay happy due to our success. So to enjoy the present moment, better sleep, and the company of our friends, we need to be forgiven.

Licon also advises David about the quest for power. Before that, Davide, think that power is wrong. But Licon told him that power in the right hand results in good things. If you have power, then you can help your management deliver more.

Lesson 7: Gabriel the Archangel: I will persist without exception

The next lesson that Ponder learned was from the archangel Gabriel.

Archangel Gabriel told David that he would persist without exception.

Successful people always focus on the outcome. There is a possibility that the process is not enjoyable, long, and boring, but they pressurize without exception only due to their focus on outcome.

Gabriel asked David, “Is he a man of faith or a man of fear? It means that in our lives, there are two main motivational forces: belief that I can do it or fear. We do things out of fear of something, like being fired, having someone else win, or being shown less than us. fear that one day we will be empty. Both are different.

We have to be men of reason. Why do we do things that we do? We definitely have reasons.

Gabriel, it’s up to us how circumstances affect us. Circumstances are excuses for poor men. It is the wise man who recognizes opportunities and uses them to his advantage.

To be a wise man, study, get lessons from the circumstances, and apply that knowledge to get a brighter future. A depressed person usually overthinks what will happen to him; instead, he focuses on what he actually wants and how he will achieve it.

Average people usually compare themselves to others and achieve something, but successful people also compare themselves to their true potential. What they can achieve if they realize their full potential

So it’s our time; whatever the condition we have, we have to take charge, take responsibility, be happy with what we have, whatever the condition we are, and have a dedicated heart. and take action, because without action, nothing is accomplished in life. The desire to work with others and for the betterment of ourselves is forgiven; there is a graveyard in our hearts where we bury our anger, expectations, and other things others said to us. If we still think about what others say or think about us, we will not reach where we want to reach. We have to be persistent, without exception. In the case of difficulties, frustation, and disheartness, we have to focus on the outcome. There are two types of motivation in life. Fear and faith Focus on faith. faith in the certainty of the future

6 tips to consider before giving up consultant mindsets

There are ups and downs in life. Possible this time we are at our lowest point in life. Sometimes results are not coming. Due to frustration, we start to think about quitting or giving up. If you are facing this situation, this video is for you.

1-This is a phase.

Tough times come in life. These are part of life. They will never last forever.

There is a quote: “Tough times never last, but tough people do”. Life is a cycle of highs and lows. Remember. These times will never last forever. These phases of life also passed. There is a storm in life now; when the storm passes, a new day will come. Hold on.

2-You are stronger than you think.

Most of the time, stress comes from inside, not outside circumstances. Because in the past, we performed well. But now is a tough time or a bad situation. It does not mean you cannot perform well again.

You are still the same; you are still strong. This tough time also teaches you.

Remember many similar situations occurred previously, and you survived them well then.

You have inner strength.

Believe you can still reach your potential, and you will solve this problem.

Remember that you are more capable than you think. You are stronger than you believe.

3-Small steps count.

There is a saying that when fog is everywhere and you cannot see anything,  you can still see one step. And when you take that step, one more step is again visible. And these small steps lead you to better

Progress isn’t always a leap forward. Sometimes it’s tiny, almost imperceptible steps. Each step, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goal. Celebrate every bit of progress. Slow and steady can still win the race. Keep moving forward.

4-Remember Your ‘Why’.

Think back to the reasons why you started. Reconnect with your motivation and your goals.

The successful people are those who stay more persistent than others. They also have lows and highs in their lives. And, perhaps most importantly, they understand why they do what they do.

This is why you should keep them going. This is why I did not let them down.

5-Failure is a stepping stone.

When the toughest failure comes to mind, always remember that every failure is another opportunity to learn. But it does not mean you should stop. First effort, so you cannot fail. Failure is not an option, but if you meet failure, it is another stepping stone.

6-Practice self-care.

First of all, you have to take care of yourself. Practice self-care.

Eat healthy food.

Do exercise.

Take proper 6-hour sleep.

Enjoy the company of loved ones.

Do meditation.

Spend time in activities that you love.

One has to get through all trials and tribulations to achieve what he wants. Dreaming is easy but making those dreams come true is a hell of a task. There are many secret ingredients to the success of the achievement of goals. These elements include determination, persistence, courage to face failures, and the ability to encounter impacts. Determination is an integral element that plays a vital role in the journey. What is that one thing that keeps you going throughout the whole process? Determination is like a blessing in disguise as it helps you to keep up with the challenges and trials. Are you determined towards your goals? Have you guys ever felt that you are giving it your all? Persistence comes together with determination both of these factors go hand in hand. Persistence is required so you can persist through all the hardships and struggles.  Persistence is defined as never quitting on your goals or achievements.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

What’s the difference between determination and persistence?

Determination is the ultimate marvellous trait that helps you keep going towards your goals. Persistence is that you are resisting the failures and setbacks in the journey to success. In other words, I can say that determination is a more powerful tool than persistence or perseverance.  There are some examples of persistence for students at college. For instance, some students are not naturally capable of comprehending everything that is being taught in the class. Sometimes they have to revise everything at home so that they can grasp the concepts well. Such students pass through all the challenges and overcome those struggles by applying different techniques like revising the whole concept at home.  Improving handwriting is not something that can be done overnight it requires persistence and hard work throughout the whole process. The feelings of constant failures and setbacks can make you give up on the task. But by persisting through all the harsh thoughts one can achieve the destination.  Those students who start preparing for their exams at the end of the semester are the ones who require a great deal of persistence. 

Nothing is impossible in this world. Firm determination, it is said, can move heaven and earth. Things appear far beyond one’s power, because one cannot set his heart on any arduous project due to want of strong will.

What are some real-life examples of persistence at home?

The bringing up of a child is a tough task and it needs to be carried out vigilantly. When raising a kid, you have to stay persistent and patient throughout the whole procedure. At times, you may feel like quitting but you have to bear their prudent attitude with patience and perseverance. Likewise, learning a new language is a tough task. When the task is difficult you may feel disappointed and discouraged at some points. It is an incredibly difficult task for adults to learn a new language. You have to pay full attention towards the grammar and vocabulary. This way you can invest time and struggle to learn a novel language. 

How do we remain determined and persistent?

As I have mentioned in one of my previous videos, it’s quite necessary to live a practically possible life. There is no point in living a life of fantasy and Disneyland. Dreams can be fulfilled but the dreams out of human reach is just a mere fantasy. For instance, if a 100kg person wants to lose his weight to 60kgs in  1 month then it is something against the human limit. It is highly advisable to have measurable goals that can be achieved. Most of us set impossible goals and then strive for them. We continue to push our limits but it is something that cannot be achieved so it is just a waste of time and energy with no results.

Focusing on the journey is important. Constantly being worried about the outcome will divert your focus and you won’t be able to invest your full energy. Remaining focused and composed is integral as it will automatically lead you towards the journey.  

Stay focused and stay determined. Don’t look to anyone else to be your determination – have self-determination. It will take you very far.

Having moral support in life is also the key factor that lets you remain motivated and dedicated. Surround yourself with positive people who never feel embarrassed or ashamed to cheer you up. Sometimes the existence of cheerful people around you can keep you motivated. Being surrounded by negative people, can drain your energy and can lower your self-esteem.  Due to this peculiar reason, you can lose faith in yourself. The greatest tasks are achieved with the greatest minds. To have a strong mindset, one of the key aspects is to be surrounded by optimistic people who prove to be good for your mental health.

Life is all about struggles and challenges. Some of us remain dedicated throughout this whole process while some lose hope and start to get demotivated.  A person becomes demotivated due to a reason like being unable to get his interest in the task. The task done without any rewards or fun bears no fruit at all. A fresh student always takes initiative with all his might and it is human nature to remain boosted at the beginning of any task. The real task is to remain motivated and consistent in the entire journey. To keep up that motivation, we have to suffer with a lot of hardships and difficulties. But in the end, we succeed in achieving them. How do the students remain dedicated towards their tasks? It requires a lot of effort to remain dedicated and consistent in what you do. Motivation is not something you can get on the plate. 

Is It Normal to Never Feel Motivated While Studying?

The answer to this question is yes, it is alright if you don’t feel the spark of motivation all the time. Humans have emotions and they are unable to remain lively and cheerful all the time. This is what differentiates us from robots. 

How can we ignite ourselves to remain motivated? What are those strategies by which we can approach persistent dedication and mastership to remain motivated?

Set Clear Goals 

Setting goals is quite significant in the journey of accomplishment. A self-aware person and sensible person is always bestowed with this knowledge of what he wants in his life. A journey without objectives is just like you are wandering in the dark without any luminescence. Setting goals makes everything clear to you. When the path is known to you, achieving the journey won’t be a difficult task for you. While setting goals, your goals must be measurable and achievable. It is important to take this thing into account that goals which are practically impossible to achieve should not be taken into consideration. Aiming for immeasurable goals wastes the time and effort of an individual. It is better to work smart rather than hard. As a student, if you want to complete your study goals then it is required to set some easy measurable goals. This way the thought of achieving the measurable goal won’t lower your energy.

Set your goals high, and don’t stop till you get there.

Create a Schedule 

Creating a schedule for studies not only organises your life but also makes you feel motivated. Creating a well-structured study schedule can indeed induce motivation and help you stay on track with your studies. A schedule provides a sense of order, clarity, and purpose, making it easier to manage your time effectively. You can initiate this by building the timetable with your existing commitments of classes, homework and extracurricular activities. Determine how much time you have available for all your important chores.

Set Priorities

 Setting priorities holds a significant importance in a student’s life. Students have deadlines and due dates in their assignments and projects so they need to prioritise those things that are of great interest. The assignments and projects which need to be submitted earlier should be completed first. This way it will release a sense of accomplishment and make the student feel motivated. Focus on those objectives which have a greater impact on your lives.

It is necessary to stay committed while studying because commitment is something that needs to be fulfilled. Dedication is possible only when you remain sincere with yourself. How can we achieve contentment and happiness in our lives? Do you think that you are living a lively life? The key to happiness is contentment and peace. When your soul is calm and serene, you eventually feel the nourishment in your soul provided by the serenity of your surroundings. The achievement of serenity and calmness is kind of a hectic task. We cannot achieve this overnight. It requires years of experience and self-control. All of these emotions eventually rely on how we see things. At the end of the day, it all depends on your mindset. Your mindset reflects your personality. It defines who you are. If you are a man with a strong mindset, you are going to find everything easy. Why Mindset is Everything?

Everyone in this world has a certain set of beliefs about some things in their lives. For instance, there are two individuals with two different mindsets. One believes he can become rich while the other thinks it is almost impossible to become rich. Likewise, some people ponder that it is impossible to land on Mars while on the other hand, there are groups of individuals who deny this proposal. Nothing is impossible in this world; it is our brain that makes everything confined and restricted. The boundaries exist only in our minds. Many of you guys might be in the category of low self-esteem and low self-confidence. You may be thinking that it is not practically possible to go for impossible things. Everything seems impossible until it is done. 

No matter what, people grow. If you choose not to grow, you’re staying in a small box with a small mindset. People who win go outside of that box. It’s very simple when you look at it.

A person with a resilient mindset never fears failure.  A failure is like an opportunity for them to explore new possibilities and scenarios.  The number of failures strengthens their idea and line of thinking. The attitude of welcoming failures and hardships is positive. There is a dire need to develop this constructive attitude. We fail, we try, and we come back even stronger. Mistakes not only strengthen your abilities but also polish your character. Failures are part of your strong character’s construction. They aid in constructing your ultimate lethal personality. How does motivation play a role in developing the beast mindset? 

The positive role played by the strong mindset by fluting positive thoughts into the mind is a tool that plays a vital role in motivation.  A growth mindset develops a problem-solving skill that is direly needed in today’s era. A growth mindset is constantly being polished and all of its characters are constantly being built. A person having a growth mindset does not perceive any difficult task as an impossible one. He deeply does the critical analysis and analyzes what can be the possible benefits and risks associated with it. What can we learn from it? How can it affect our mindsets and personalities? He considers all the possible scenarios and utilizes his problem-solving skills to solve them.  

Mindset influences many other traits of an individual. A person having a strong mindset will always be willing to learn from others. He will always put his ego aside and try to achieve the ultimate goal of his business. He is never ashamed to learn from his mistakes. He can solve the dispute among individuals with his constructive behaviour. 

Turning pro is a mindset. If we are struggling with fear, self-sabotage, procrastination, self-doubt, etc., the problem is, that we’re thinking like amateurs. Amateurs don’t show up. Amateurs crap out. Amateurs let adversity defeat them. The pro thinks differently. He shows up, he does his work, and he keeps on truckin’, no matter what.

Hey guys, I hope you are doing great. Welcome to the Consultant Mindset. Everyone is striving to fulfill their necessities. All of us are working day and night to get our things done. When was the last time that you thought of focusing on yourself? When was it when you realised this fact that you need some kind of self-care as well?  There is nothing wrong with thinking about yourself and fulfilling your necessities. Whenever we do something for ourselves, people perceive it as arrogant or self-obsessive behaviour. However, it aint true. Doing something for yourself and rewarding oneself with rewards is a form of self-love. 

What Do We Mean By Focusing on Yourself?

Focusing on yourself means one should prioritize his needs and basic desires. Giving up on your necessities due to some critiques aint worth it.  The main factor of jealousy doesn’t let people see anyone live in peace. Focusing on oneself means that you are treating yourself like a royal. You are rewarding yourself at the end of the accomplishment of every task. This is what we call self-love. According to psychology, you cannot love someone unless you start loving yourself. That indicates it is necessary to love yourself to love people closer to you. When giving yourself a slave treatment, how do you expect to give your loved ones a royal treatment?

There can be no failure to a man who has not lost his courage, his character, his self-respect, or his self-confidence. He is still a King.

You may feel selfish and self-absorbed but start to think about it from a different angle.  Today’s society is merely involved in pleasing people. They don’t know what they want. The true self of the majority has vanished. When someone criticises us, we start to change ourselves without even realising that we are going towards a negative development.  How can we practice self-love?

Self-love needs acceptance.  Giving oneself enough space to accept his true self is a positive development. It leads you to accept your flaws and develop a love for yourself. When we set standards for a perfect human being, we become less likely to achieve them. To err is human; to forgive is divine. Humans are not bots, so they are imperfect. Imperfections are the identifiers that make us distinguished from the bots. Developing empathy and compassion for oneself leads you to be empathetic towards others. If you are treating yourself right, you are gonna treat people surrounding you with kindness and sympathy. 

Why is it Important to Focus on Yourself?

Focusing on oneself makes you realise your self-worth. It increases your self-confidence ad boosts your self-morale. You start to become the ultimate beast. You start realising what you deserve. You set boundaries and standards. Self-confidence does not allow you to settle for less.  

Every human has four endowments – self-awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom… The power to choose, to respond, to change.

Make Sure You are Seeking What You Want

There are times in our lives when we acquire opinions from our elders or friends.  You can just take their guidance to guide you through the way. But it does not mean that you get swayed away from your desired destination. When listening to others, we somehow manage to get ourselves trapped in their words. We start doing what they recommend us to do unintentionally. According to some scientific research, announcing your goals publicly releases a neurotransmitter dopamine that is responsible for the feeling of satisfaction in your body. When you tell your goals to anyone,the chances of achieving them start to lower eventually.  It is highly recommended to stay silent unless you achieve your goals. Announcing your goals publicly means you are adding more pressure on yourself. You are inviting unnecessary distractions to deviate you from the main destination.  As a result of all talk, people think that you are being a hypocrite who just talks and can never do anything in life.

Everything that’s created comes out of silence. Your thoughts emerge from the nothingness of silence. Your words come out of this void. Your very essence emerged from emptiness. All creativity requires some stillness.

This way it will burn the lighter of hard work in your heart. And you will continue to push harder to enjoy that moment of euphoria. Visualising success is better than telling others. In this world, not all people are happy for us. Some jealousy factors are present in people that do not let them see anyone else ahead of them. That is one of the major reasons we should not tell anyone about our future goals.

Practice Self-Discipline

To avoid distractions, try to remain disciplined. Practice discipline even when no one is watching you. Self-discipline is necessary for one’s personal growth. Regulating your actions and performing them on time is essential to maintain the zone of your personal growth. A self-disciplined mind goes for a step-wise procedure and performs tasks.
