Living in the Present Moment

I am learning to live in the present moment, though I find it a little difficult.
My mind often wanders into the depths of the past, trying to understand why things happened.
At other times, it jumps into the future, worrying about what might happen next.

But when I consciously practice staying present, I begin to feel calmer and a little happier.

The truth is, we cannot change the past.
We can only accept it as it is.

As Lao Tzu said:

“If you are depressed, you are living in the past.
If you are anxious, you are living in the future.
If you are at peace, you are living in the present.”

Sometimes the present feels like standing on a staircase.
From there, you can see both what lies below and what lies ahead—the past and the future.
Yet, your feet remain firmly on the step you are standing on now.

The mind constantly jumps between the past and the future, but I gently bring it back to the present moment.
I focus on what I am doing and how I am doing it.

While traveling, I recite holy words and give them my full attention.
When chanting, my mind becomes completely absorbed in the sound of the words.
This presence keeps me free from thoughts of the past and worries about the future—and brings a quiet sense of peace.

Many of us engage in negative self-talk, which stops us from taking action. Instead, replace those thoughts with uplifting affirmations. Remember, our words can either build someone up or tear them down. Choose to spread positivity and let your words shine!

Agreement 2 – Don’t Take Anything Personally

The second agreement is don’t take anything personally. It’s easy to let others’ words affect our mood. When we feel criticized, we often react defensively, creating conflict.

But here’s a crucial insight: what others say is a reflection of their reality, not ours. By not taking things personally—whether praise or criticism—we free ourselves from unnecessary emotional turmoil. Your self-worth should come from within, not from external validation.

Agreement 3 – Don’t Make Assumptions

The third agreement is don’t make assumptions. Assumptions can lead us to misunderstand situations and people. Instead of jumping to conclusions, ask questions to gain clarity.

This practice not only prevents unnecessary conflict but also helps you understand your true desires. Remember, communication is key to breaking down barriers!

Agreement 4 – Always Do Your Best

Finally, the fourth agreement is always do your best. This doesn’t mean striving for perfection; it’s about putting in your best effort in each moment. When we detach from the outcome and focus on the process, we alleviate pressure and allow ourselves to grow.

Life is about progress, not perfection. Embrace where you are now, and do what you can with what you have.

I asked myself the same question.
At that time, I had no aims—no goals in life.

The first step is to take responsibility. It’s your life. You need to take responsibility for your actions. If you did not take responsibility. Nothing happens. Life remains unchanged, and you will remain unchanged as a consequence.
Second step is to Know yourself. Almost everyone knows something about themself. Pose the question, “Why did you do anything?” Examine your actions and the reasons behind them. What you like and what is reason behind the things you dislike. An amazing dialogue sprang to mind.

This step lets you understand what your values are.

Third step to Set some goals. This step helps you understand what you want and what you can achieve. After setting goals, start working to achieve. Make some plan, what you need to change in your life style. What new habits you need to develop to achieve those goals. If possible break these goals to manageable small step and focus on these steps and start do small and short achievements.

Fourth step to Stop comparing yourself. Everyone has a different journey. Some understand what they want earlier and start their journey much earlier. You never reach their level but you can become better in longer run. If you start today, then with in 5 years you are much in better position.

There is one bouns but optional step. That is about reflection. Start writing journal. And at the end of day. reflect on everything that happen. What you can do little different to achieve different results. Revise it and review it.

Why assertive communication is important

Suppose you are working on assigned tasks. Your tasks are not completed. Your boss has arrived and is assigning you additional tasks. And ask to complete those tasks. He set unrealistic deadlines. To meet these unrealistic deadlines, you spent extra hours overworking. The result is buggy. You are not producing outstanding results.

Because you avoid conflict, you have to accept more and more work. And as a result, you were unable to meet the expectations. And became a B-grade employee. Despite the efforts, implementations of ideas, and suggestions, nothing changes, and the situation becomes worse day by day.

The management frequently complains about your work. Your performance is declining daily.

Is there a lack of communication here? No, you’re speaking with your manager. But your communication style needs to change. You definitely work on a few things to make an impact. Let’s discuss three communication styles and how you need to change for better communication if you want different results.

Passive communication.

Passive communication’s primary goal is to avoid conflict. To achieve this, you strive to conceal your emotions and thoughts about your task. You must suppress your emotions and thoughts, allowing others to make decisions on your behalf. It results in frustration and dissatisfaction at work.

This situation usually leads to a lose-win situation.

Aggressive communication.

The main theme of aggressive communication is to focus solely on your own needs and feelings. Aggressive communication often suppresses the feelings and thoughts of co-workers. When confronting others, it is always defensive and aggressive.

Aggressive communicators invade other people’s personal spaces. Or, never let another person speak.

Assertive communication.

The main theme is honest communication about your thoughts and feelings. The theme is to share what is actually happening. Instead of suppressing other people’s needs and wants, we need to communicate in such a way that others will feel respect for their ideas and feelings. In assertive communication, the communicator needs to communicate challenges and hurdles to their task.

Assertive communication is a win-win situation. It implies that while respecting others needs and wants, the communicator also asserts his own.

Why does it matter?

Why assert that communication matters? It matters because passive people are generally frustrated, unhappy, and dissatisfied with other people’s needs. Passive people cannot comfortably share their opinions or needs. They constantly worry about the other person’s happiness. They strive to cater to the needs of others.

But assertive people are more balanced in their ability to put themselves first and consider others. While assertive people are happy, they balance their needs with those of others.

Now let’s come back to the example mentioned at the start of the video.

When the manager assigns you a new task, you have to describe your current situation. If the manager assigns you a task with an unrealistic deadline, you must explain why. You must explain to him how much time it takes to complete the task.

The development of a habit entirely involves the psychological part of our body. The formation of either bad or good habits is related to the psychology of our brain. When we tend to repeat our tasks all day every day it becomes a memory of our brain and it tends to do it repetitively and automatically. Those habits become part of your unconscious brain and they begin to perform those activities without any initiative. For instance, drinking caffeine daily in the morning will become your habit and you will get irritated and annoyed when you won’t be able to have it on some random day. That’s how bad habits affect our mental health and lure us to think that we have been on the right path.  Bad habits are part of the unconscious brain so it is hard to spot them. The pleasure you get from performing bad habits makes it harder for an individual to leave them instantly.

The bad habits are difficult to quit but they are not impossible to leave. Let us dig into some ways to overcome bad habits.

Identifying the cause of your habit

The best way to solve a problem is to find the root cause of that problem. Identifying which one of the factors is causing that habit to form and process is a necessary part of quitting that peculiar habit. How do we identify the cause of bad habits? Begin to analyze your schedule and your day-to-day activities that which are those activities which are stimulating such habits. For instance, some people have a habit of smoking, now you have to analyze which factors are triggering smoking. Most individuals start smoking just to fight stress and depression. In order to overcome such habits, people tend to involve them with bad habits of overeating, alcohol consumption and smoking. After finding the triggers to your habits, try to stay away from such triggers.  When you have enough self-awareness about yourself, you will try to stay away from such triggers.

Use replacements

There is one psychologist named Shawn Achor who prefers to put obstacles in the way of your bad habits so it may become easy for you to get rid of them. For instance, if you have a bad habit of repeatedly checking your Instagram then you can try to remove this habit by uninstalling the application.  When we are constantly involved in a task, it becomes our unintentional habit and muscle memory to do that. If you have a bad habit of gossiping about people at work, you can avoid it by playing any game in that particular lunchtime. You can always use replacements and tactics to avoid certain bad habits. You can also flip the bad habits by using them into positive ones so you may keep yourself away from harm. How can you do it? If you have a bad habit of criticising people, try praising them instead for their little good habits. You can always replace the bad habits with the good ones when you have proper self-awareness.

Reward yourself

A sense of accomplishment is acknowledged only when it is awarded with some reward.  In order to make yourself good about breaking the habit, it is necessary that you start acknowledging your progress. Rewarding yourself with little treats releases a sense of accomplishment and makes you feel more motivated. For constant motivation to give up on your habits, it is necessary to stay dedicated and consistent.  Start to associate yourself with all the good habits by realising all the good rewards at your destination. The quench of seeking your favourite reward at the end will help you remain dedicated.

Hi friends, Today I am going to share the book summary of “Traveler Gift” by Andy Andrews.

This is the transformation story of a person who tried to quit his life, but during qoma, he met seven biblical and historical figures who gave him different advice, and after awakening, he implemented those seven lessons in his life to improve his quality of life.

The story of a person who is in his mid-40s is about almost failure in everything. His daughter was in the hospital, full of debt. He was in desperate need of money for his only daughter, but due to stress and aggression, he was fired from his job. In total disappointment, he started to think that, due to his inability to meet the needs and expectations of his family, he should quit his life. He thinks that is the only way to provide a better future for his family. After his death, his wife will find a good husband, and that person will take care of his girl. On a cold winter night, he hit his car into a tree. As a result, he went to Comma.

During this period, he met many historical and biblical figures, and he even met himself in the future.

All these people gave him their wisdom. I am going to share this wisdom. And if we apply this wisdom to our lives, our future is bright, regardless of our age.

Lesson 1: Harry S. Truman: The buck stops here.

David met first with Harry Truman. Harry Truman talks about how the first lesson is to accept the responsibility of life.

You have to accept the resuscitation of the choice you made in the past. Responsibility for who you are now is a result of your past choices. Our actions are directed by our thinking. If we want to have a different future, we have to make different choices. We have different ways of thinking and acting. We stop blaming our present situation on our parents, friends, wives, and relatives. We have to accept responsibility for our thoughts and actions. We consider every problem an opportunity to grow and learn.

The past is gone, but the future is still in our hands.

Lesson 2: King Solomon: I will seek wisdom.

In his second visit, David meets biblical figure King Solomon. He advised David to seek

wisdom.

How to prepare for the future is by seeking wisdom and taking responsibility.

Most of the time, we took inspiration from the people with whom we spent time. If we take

company of cursed and complaining people, we also develop a victim mindset.

It is a common saying that we are the average of five people with whom we are associated in life.

We have to guard our association. Intentionally or unintentionally, we follow our mentor in life. For example, Solomon explains that his father was his mentor. Your teacher, uncle, actor, or any other figure will possibly be mentioned. So seek wisdom from their lives.

We have to take the present problems as challenges, and facing these challenges will result in a better future. We have to increase our wisdom by reading books, watching YouTube videos, listening to podcasts, and observing and studying the lives of successful people.

Seeking wisdom to overcome the thoughts, doubts, and fears in life

Lesson 3: Col. Joshua Chamberlain: I am a person of action.

Third wisdom. David got it from Joshua Chamberlain, who taught David that the only solution to all problems is to take action.

Take charge and take action. Even if we do not have all the necessary resources, we can still take action. What is best possible? We have to. Many times, we did not take action and stayed in the same location. In life, we take decisions quickly and do not let change happen. They take decisions and start taking actions. With these actions, they will no longer be afraid.

They did not fear other people’s opinions, gossip, idle chatter, or all those things.

For men of action, failure is a myth. Failure exists only for the person who quits.

Lesson 4: Christopher Columbus: I have a decided heart

The fourth lesson David learned from Columbus was to have a detached heart and ignore what people think about him.

The truth is the truth, whatever the situation. The truth is never dependent on the opinions of others.

Many people did not make efforts to change due to fear of the opinions of others and were doomed to mediocrity.

If you worry about what other people think of you, which results in you having more confidence in them than in yourself, poor is the man whose future depends on the opinions and permission of others. The only solution to criticism is that you will die doing nothing.

To achieve something, you must have a decisive heart. Many people fail because they lack a decisive heart. They are not committed from the heart.

“Most people fail at whatever they attempt because of an undecided heart. Should I? Should I not? Go forward? Go back? Success requires the emotional balance of a committed heart.

“Getting started, getting finished—both ends of a journey require a demonstration of passion.”

Passion only comes from the heart. Its product is a heart decision.

Lesson 5: Anne Frank: Today I will choose to be happy.

In his next visit, David meets Anne Frank. She provides her way to always stay happy, regardless of the situation.

Whatever condition we have or whatever challenges we are facing, it’s up to us to stay happy.

What ever is in us that takes us to the top, instead of what color or race we belong to?

Happyness is the result of certain thoughts and activities, which are actually chemical reactions.

In body. So we have to focus on these thoughts, which makes us happy.

The smile is our calling card.

Many times in life, we have to face injustices based on color, race, and nationality. But absolutely, what matters is what is inside us. It’s like a balloon; whatever its color or size, it goes up due to what’s inside it. It does matter what we think. Similary, we have to choose what we think to be.

Lesson 6: Abraham Lincoln: I will greet this day with a forgiving spirit.

On his next trip, David meets the present Abhraim Licon. Lincon described how important it is to have a forgiving spirit.

People make mistakes, either intentionally or unintentionally. Hurt us. If we are in a leadership position, we have to deal with people. We can use their strength only when we are able to forgive them. They make mistakes and make wrong decisions.

Lincon takes David to the graveyard. It shows that our hearts are like graveyards. You have to bury disappointment, anger, frustation, misbehavior, and other things here. As in the past, all events that occurred in the past are now dead; bury them.

The only way to become a good husband, father, or leader is to forgive others.

In a similar way, when someone hurts us or does not meet our expectations, we become angry. When we were going to sleep, those moments came into our minds. And we did not get good sleep.

There are two types of forgiveness we require: forgiving ourselves for our mistakes and failures Why? Because, instead of focusing on future outcomes, we were struck by the past. The second is unconditional forgiveness for others.

We all have failures in life and in business, but we all have success in our lives. But if we are still thinking about failure, we will not stay happy due to our success. So to enjoy the present moment, better sleep, and the company of our friends, we need to be forgiven.

Licon also advises David about the quest for power. Before that, Davide, think that power is wrong. But Licon told him that power in the right hand results in good things. If you have power, then you can help your management deliver more.

Lesson 7: Gabriel the Archangel: I will persist without exception

The next lesson that Ponder learned was from the archangel Gabriel.

Archangel Gabriel told David that he would persist without exception.

Successful people always focus on the outcome. There is a possibility that the process is not enjoyable, long, and boring, but they pressurize without exception only due to their focus on outcome.

Gabriel asked David, “Is he a man of faith or a man of fear? It means that in our lives, there are two main motivational forces: belief that I can do it or fear. We do things out of fear of something, like being fired, having someone else win, or being shown less than us. fear that one day we will be empty. Both are different.

We have to be men of reason. Why do we do things that we do? We definitely have reasons.

Gabriel, it’s up to us how circumstances affect us. Circumstances are excuses for poor men. It is the wise man who recognizes opportunities and uses them to his advantage.

To be a wise man, study, get lessons from the circumstances, and apply that knowledge to get a brighter future. A depressed person usually overthinks what will happen to him; instead, he focuses on what he actually wants and how he will achieve it.

Average people usually compare themselves to others and achieve something, but successful people also compare themselves to their true potential. What they can achieve if they realize their full potential

Sometimes there is no issue or problem in life. And then suddenly, buried emotions start to pop up.

We start to ask questions of us.

“Why do those things happen to me? Why he or she said to me, How she treated me in such a way.”.

Most of these things happened almost a decade ago.

Sometimes, from unknown sources, negative thoughts start to appear in our minds. This will happen if I move this way. There are chances that I will be fired from this job. One of the most important thoughts is what others think of us.

That’s true; life is never easy; it’s cruel. We cannot control our thoughts. As a result, we become victims of our thoughts.

We cannot control our thoughts, but we can avoid being victims of them.

One way is to start thinking in terms of consequences.

When a strange thought starts to appear in your mind, Start to think about its consequences.

For example, 20 years ago, one girl rejected me, and she enjoyed the company of some other person. When this incident came to mind, I started feeling the pain of rejection, and as a result, either I became angry or I became sad. My head starts to get heavy, and sadness and disappointment start to appear in my mind.

when I realized the result of this thought on my personality. I stop focus on those thoughts and forcibly think on other direction.

And this idea consequence helps me control my thoughts.

When letting go is not possible or thoughts are repeatedly coming into our mind. Then only solution is focus on consequences. What are results I face if I continue focus on that thought.

The only secret here is that when we start thinking about something, random thoughts disappear.

When you start in terms of consequences, our thoughts starts to disappear.
