What’s the meaning of our life? What’s the mere purpose? The question of human existence is quite different for every religion. Every human is curious to find the answer to this question. What’s the point of our existence in this world? Many humans on this planet are living a meaningless life. They don’t know what to do with their lives. They are just spending their lives in constant struggles. They are spending their lives doing the bare minimum. They aren’t aware of their purpose in life. Many people have come across this thought quite a several times now. If you think like this then you are not alone in this situation. It is completely normal.

First off first, it is necessary to determine the correct definition of a meaningful life. Every individual has his perspective. They perceive life in their way. Not all of us have the same motto for life. A meaningful life is a construct of coherence, happiness and satisfaction. There can be different ways of a meaningful life. Every individual has his passion. Some want to excel in their academic career whereas some want to pursue in their jobs or businesses. A meaningful life refers to how are we going to spend our life. Either we spend it doing things of our passion or spend it wasting time on other garbage.

Life becomes meaningful when it has a purpose. When we become destined to achieve certain goals in our lives, life gets directed eventually. Having goals and purpose and striving for them day and night lets us put some major efforts to strive through the situation.  Finding meaning in one’s life is a personal journey. It requires some time but gradually streamlines you towards a meaningful life. Where you enjoy doing your thing instead of dragging it. A purposeful life lets you overcome any difficulty with much ease. Since you choose a life of your choice you become capable to cope with its hardships as well. 

How can we Establish a Meaningful Life?

A meaningful isn’t related to a successful life. If you’re having a satisfied mindset, you feel happy and contented and you’re good to go. People have this misconception that a happy life is somehow related to a meaningful life. You can be successful and live a meaningless life at the same time. For example, a person who is earning less but is doing a job of his interest is better than a person who’s a business tycoon and isn’t passionate about his work. It’s good to have less earnings with a passionate job.

Develop a passion or find your passion 

Anyone has some passion in their lives. While some are just living a trash life doing nothing at all. how can we determine our passion? Well, certain things in our lives make us feel happier and contented. It can either be some art or business etc. we just have to find that happiness and satisfaction. Some people find their happiness at a very old age but it is never too late to find out the exact purpose of your life. If you don’t have any passion, strive for one or find one.

Develop relationships 

Sometimes we develop such relationships in our lives to whom we become willing to devote our entire lives. There should be the existence of such people in our lives. We love seeing those people. Our unfinished love for them makes us do anything for them. We cannot imagine our lives without them. We try to live for them. We try to focus on ourselves for them. It is necessary to find some meaningful people in our lives that will let us move forward always. Life is like the ride of a camel stranded in a desert striving barely under the dazzling rays of the sun. if we want to keep going, stay connected to ones who never care to back off. Monitor Your Mood

Motivation is entirely dependent on your mood. You are not always in the mood to get things done. Since we are not machines there are times when we become extremely exhausted and become unwilling to do anything. At that time, you must not forgive and indulge yourself in other activities. Some random activities like games, exercise, reading books etc can divert your attention. after some relaxation, you again become strong enough to combat problems for your passion.

Monitoring Passion as you Age 

The interest of an individual changes throughout life. We have different interests at different stages of life. For instance, older people are more likely to indulge themselves in fun activities. They have trouble establishing new relationships but gradually they develop some really fun activities and continue to pursue them as their passion.

How do we define adversity?

Any negative approach including poverty, rejection, struggling to succeed in a career or losing a loved one comes under the area of adversity.  We may all have to deal with adversity at some point in our lives. All of us have different coping mechanisms. So one way cannot work for the other.

What happens when adversity hits an individual?

Whenever it strikes, thousand of thoughts strike your mind at that point. You feel physically and mentally numb. You start to hate yourself. You gradually indulge yourself in stress and mental illnesses. First off first you have to let go of any expectations. It’s useless to cry over spilt milk. We cannot bring anything back. Just move on. It’s completely alright. If anything has dragged you down, you should not worry. You will succeed after facing failures. Accepting change is hard but it is necessary to make you strong and formidable. Mental health is necessary to overcome incoming challenges and hurdles. Bad things happening to you aren’t your fault. It is written in your destiny. And none can change it. To increase your resilience, it is necessary to let go.

The next step helps in overcoming adversity.

Refrain from making excuses

People who always blame others for their adversities are most likely to remain troubled. How can we free ourselves? if you are facing some challenges due to your own mistakes, don’t stress yourself too much. Even if it’s not your mistake just accept it and move on.  We often think that if we blame others we may feel contented. In this way, we never improve. Always making others guilty for your mistakes won’t let you get anywhere. You will continue to lag. And you can never be able to stand on your own. Stop making excuses and own what you have done. Don’t let yourself rot in a state of constant denial. Be brave and encounter it.

Positive self-talk

Well, it’s human nature to overthink every possible scenario. They tend to anticipate future incomings. And surprisingly most of the time they have to encounter those anticipated situations. At this point, you should continue to cheer yourself. So self-talk is necessary to unleash your true skills. We should continue praising ourselves. ‘I did great today”, “I am smart enough to get this job” I have prepared for this exam very well”. Such positive sentences help in uplifting self-esteem and you eventually do wonders. Maintain consistency and have a firm belief in yourself that you can do it. No matter how many times you fall you still can do it. 

Use your sense of humour

Everyone loves to laugh. Laughing boosts your mood and uplifts your sadness and depression. Laughing costs nothing. What are you waiting for then? A good sense of humour is a true blessing. Laughing results in the release of some happy hormones from the body. It also helps in strengthening the immunity of the human body making you less vulnerable to diseases. That’s certainly the reason why comedians live more than normal human beings. Life is too short to repent for your mistakes. Give it a huge laugh and move on.

Have faith 

Whenever we encounter adversity, we eventually lose faith. We think of the worst possible scenarios. Saying things like “ why it always happens to me?”, “Probably I am the bad luck”. Losing faith in yourself and God will make you sink into the depression. Hold on a little and you will be rewarded. We are impatient and want things to get done in no time. However, that’s not how the world works.

Celebrate success with positive mindsets 

No matter how big or small your success is. Celebrate it and acknowledge your skills and aptitudes. Your surroundings matter a lot. A man is known by the company he keeps. Surround yourself with positive mindset people. Such people will never let you fall. They will always instil some positive part in you keeping you motivated.

These ornaments of moral values are the most gorgeous dresses one can wear. You don’t have to buy expensive stuff to make yourself worthy in the eyes of others. The only thing that matters is you. Now the point is how much you love yourself? Loving yourself doesn’t mean having materialistic things like cars, money, and phones. It is all about how you treat yourself. 

It is a matter of knowing your value. You don’t have to be around people to realize your value. Your mindset should be “my love for me is independent of love for others”. One should keep in mind that I believe in myself. And I know my worth. The thing is to trust the process. If you are giving up on the 5th or 30th try then it means you don’t want it badly. If you really want something then you are not moved by how long it takes. You won’t be discouraged by what people say. When you desire something and really want to get it you don’t settle for mediocre things. you keep moving forward.

The essential step is to make your head clear. What do you really want? Ask your heart about your desires. It is necessary to clear the clutter in your head. The body has limitations but the mind doesn’t have them. Until now only visions have been able to change the world. It is quite evident that revolution starts from your mind. You cannot push your body through its limits but you can push your mind. Never let your fears overcome your struggles. Overcoming your fears is the first step towards achieving your target. She always used to say that I am ugly, weak, and feeble. There was a person who used to lift her up by saying you are beautiful and you are strong. I have always faced zero motivation levels while doing my work. There are short-term fixes and long term fixes. The long-term fixes include building strong self-esteem, boosting your morale, and developing self-discipline techniques. But we are not going to talk about them. Let us jump right to the short-term fixes that will make you complete your task. What are short-term fixes? How are these short-term fixes going to help?

Go for a walk

There are four major steps that are needed to be followed. The first step is to go for a walk. Everyone must be aware of it. But how is it going to help you? Whenever you feel demotivated and feel like giving up. It is that time you switch your physiology and go for a walk. you have loads of work and you don’t feel like leaving your desk. You don’t feel like working; you don’t feel like leaving the workspace as well. I have applied this technique in my real life as well so trust this process. Whenever I feel like giving up, I go for a walk and refresh my brain. I can give you some scientific explanation for it. An experiment conducted in 2007 revealed that the treadmill walk for about 30-35 minutes boosted cognitive flexibility up to 70%. And according to another study it was found out that sunlight which is a major and natural source of vitamin D helps you in overcoming the symptoms of fatigue. There is another Japanese concept called Shinrin Yoku which literally means “forest bathing”. It means interacting with nature which helps you boost your motivation and makes you feel lively and refreshed. You can even do some exercise while going outside for a walk. You can play basketball, tennis, and badminton to freshen your mind.

Decide a topic to work on

The next step is to decide on a topic to work on. It illustrates that you should commit to one task instead of jumping to easier ones whenever you feel the current task is difficult. If you feel it is difficult to stick to one task then you can write it down anywhere in the notebook. It not only helps you stay focused but also doesn’t let you forget your task. The first thing is to get yourself committed to one task. No matter how difficult it turns out to be. Leaving things in between is the thing due to which people lag behind. Firstly make your head clear and clear up all the tangled thoughts and commit to one task. And then start working on it. Focus on it and make yourself remain in that box until you complete the task.

Organise your workspace 

Clearing the clutter and organizing the workspaces is as important as completing the task. Our moms have been scolding us well for keeping things in place. But do we listen to them? I guess if we had been listening to them, they would not have been scolding us for years. Keeping things in place and organizing your workspace boosts your morale and helps you remain focused and attentive. Continuously watching things on your desk being unorganized ultimately lowers your working efficiency. When you have an organized desk you will require less time to accomplish your task. You are unable to locate the important items? You can find them easily when you have your desk organized. Your thoughts will be organized at your desk.It helps you in time management as well. Requires less time than usual. Lets you focus on the important tasks so you don’t miss them out. The renowned American chef Anthony Bourdain writes in his book “ Kitchen confidential” that his fellow mates used to do work in a dirty environment. One day his head chef went to him and placed his hand on the cutting board dirty with bread crumbs and then placed it on his face. He told him “that’s how your brain looks”.

Low key efforts 

Everyone is scared of putting in an effort. What is the easiest way to do a difficult task? Shall I tell you a secret? The best way to do a difficult task is to put a lowkey effort into it. For example, if I talk about myself then while writing the script I will not beat myself up if I am unable to find any funny comments or references. I will just go with the flow and will write whatever is in my mind. And then once I come into my zone and creative form I will just go back and add up the missing things. You can do hard work and can learn everything but the next day you feel like fading everything from your brain. Why does that happen? After all such night pullers, you managed to prepare it. And now it’s all vanishing. Why’s it happening? The information is not stored in the long-term memory of the brain. And the short-term memory of the brain is not capable of having such a long span.

When you are not studying and having a sound sleep your brain is involved in storing all the info in long-term memory. The people who were chewing gum remained calm and handled the situation efficiently. Regardless of an anxious atmosphere they kept calm and remained productive. While those who were not chewing gums could not survive a chance. Studies have also shown that people who chew gum tend to be more attentive and focused in their work. It also increases their attention span. So whenever you sit to work just keep a pack of chewing gum in your pocket.

Are you drinking enough water? Because now studies have revealed that hydrating a body helps your brain work faster and more productively. It was explained by social experiments done on the students. The students who took a few sips of water during the exam tend to produce 10% more results than those who didn’t drink water during the exam. Water plays a major role in focusing and physical endurance. It helps boost the cognitive functions of the body. So if you want to feel enthusiastic while learning something new don’t forget to hydrate your body.

Music; A stress reliever 

Another bubbly trick is listening to music. Are you a music lover? If you are then it is going to help you a lot in learning faster. Some people have sworn that music has really helped them to learn faster. Music is known to be a stress reliever and an anxiety remover. These cognitive issues are those that are never taken into account. We do not consider them a disease. In fact, the literal meaning of disease tells us the feeling of being in an uncomfortable situation. If you are feeling bizarre, anxious, or agitated then you should pay attention to such feelings as well. We only pay attention to infectious diseases. Psychological issues are something that should be treated as well. Many suicide cases are happening these days due to mental health issues. I will state some reasons why people encounter mental health issues and their solutions in this video. Let us get straight into this video without wasting much time. Causes of mental health issues 

  • Childhood trauma or abuse

According to science, there is some genetic basis for mental problems as well. For example, the mental disorder schizophrenia is most likely to be passed on to the next generation because it has a genetic basis. Other psychological disorders like autism, bipolar disorders and depression run in the family as well. Diseases with a genetic basis can never be cured 100% but they can be managed with proper treatments and prevention. Mental health issues can arise from various traumas and incidents in life. Consider a kid facing traumatic incidents in childhood like parental abuse or bullying in school. These traumas will continue to grow with him/her till he/she gets old enough to overcome them.  Even if they overcome such traumas a piece of them becomes part of their brain and can never be unremembered.

Bereavement 

It is something that can arise from losing loved ones in your life. It is the deprivation of your beloved and precious people. People who tend to lose their loved ones unexpectedly or unexpectedly in their lives can have major impacts on their mental states. Just as consider an example in 2016 a native school in Pakistan became under terrorist attack. And many youngsters were martyred in that incident. That incident left long-lasting damage to their parents’ brains. Their children left for education but they never came back. This will become a trauma for other parents as well eventually. Traumas lead to depression, agitation, and anxiety.

Homelessness or unemployment 

Poverty is something that can turn your life upside down. Homelessness can cause you to worry more about your lifestyle issues. Hazrat Ali (A.S) “if poverty were a man; I would’ve slain him”. Homelessness and unemployment are related to each other. Unemployment results in poverty and stressed-out conditions. Consider if you are living on rent and suddenly you get fired from employment. Now you have no source of income. How are you going to overcome this problem? Employment is not something that would be given to you in no time. You have to strive for it. Constant worries about these situations lead to psychological issues. And our psychology is related to our physical health as well.

Solutions to mental issues

As I mentioned earlier, mental disorders that have a genetic basis and run in families cannot be treated. But their symptoms can be managed by proper steps.

  • Look after your physical health 

Our brain and body are connected. Our body works in coordination. There are proper signaling pathways in the body that are being done by the glands and hormone production. Such as whenever you are happy the happy hormone called oxytocin is produced. Whenever you are stressed out, stress hormone adrenaline is produced. It concludes how well our body is coordinated in its actions. It is essential to take care of your physical health so that you remain mentally healthy. Getting enough sleep prevents you from mood swings. Eating healthy food instead of junk helps the release of happy chemicals in the body. 

  • Nourish your social life

Try to stay connected with your peers and family. It will help you engage your thoughts. It helps in feeling confident about yourself. Boosting morale and self-esteem is also a major step in lifting your anxious thoughts. Connection with peers helps you in a way that you feel protected by their support. You do not feel lonely and stressed out. You always think that they got their back so there is nothing to worry about.

  • Medications and therapies

According to doctors many medications and therapies are available that can help you in overcoming mental disorders. Therapies like CBT(cognitive behavioural therapy) help you in dealing with behavioural problems. Antidepressant pills and many stress-reducing pills are recommended by psychiatrists to control mental health issues.

 In the end, I must say we should not overlook mental disorders by considering them just mood swings. Mental issues are a hot topic these days leading to suicidal thoughts and mental lacerations. They used to kill their daughters and used to bury them alive. Only a few people were well aware of the righteous deeds. After ages when revolution was brought up it made people realize that they were at mistakes, and they were always doing the wrong thing. It helped them to become mentally and spiritually strong enough to handle situations. Building character involves speaking the truth always no matter how tough the situation is. Past experiences of our ancestors made us learn that having information about a certain topic or thing is necessary to make a judgment about it.

Increased rate of innovation 

Acquiring knowledge lets you invent things. Sticking to the same knowledge over years does you no good. you have to be versatile and dynamic enough to seek knowledge from different sources. It is said that little knowledge is always dangerous. acquiring knowledge not only opens the door of various areas to people. But it also helps them to get a holistic approach. As knowledge has many areas that lie in the spiritual, moral, and physical aspects. Many things explained in science have a major basis in religious books as well. So we can extract that knowledge through a holistic approach. There are no boundaries of knowledge. Knowledge not only helps you get the best personality but also grooms other aspects of your character. 

Being a better person at communicating with other people is also a result of gaining knowledge. Only people with a vast amount of knowledge can carry and win an argument. Communicate your Expectations Clearly 

In order to develop proper connections with your kids, it is necessary to communicate with them. In every relationship, communication plays a key role in the maintenance of relations. If there is miscommunication or lack of communication then it eventually breaks a relationship and spoils it. It is obligatory for parents to let their kids know what they actually expect from them. Parents should be able to communicate well with their kids. When a child is in the developmental stage, he/she goes through various hormonal changes. In the case of males, they go through changes in the level of testosterone. An increased level of testosterone can result in anger issues and emotional disturbances. So they should be handled with care and cautiousness. If you tell the kids your expectations beforehand then they are more likely to accept them and agree to them. A parent should communicate with them in a polite manner. For example, a parent should avoid saying “wash the dishes”. It is just like ordering them around. Do it like this instead: “ can you wash the dishes?” there are more chances that they will accept what you are trying to say. 

Respect their privacy 

As a child in the developmental stages, there are lots of bodily changes occurring through time. We should give them enough time to recognize their physiological and psychological changes. The most important factor which is required by a teenager is independence and freedom. We should trust them enough to give them independence. They should have the freedom to go anywhere they want. But in addition to that, they should have the responsibility to inform their parents before going anywhere. In this way, the healthy bond between parents and kids remains intact. If a kid asks for some space then go ahead and give them that. Every person needs a personal space to nourish their character better. A parent should not take this as a personal attack when a child asks for some space. But parents should take care of their personal feelings themselves. When a kid is a teen some parents often force them to do the styling with the parents’ choice. However, a teenager should be given proper freedom to style themselves according to the way they want.

Accepting their Social Needs 

The majority of parents do not allow their kids to go to their friends’ houses. They do not even allow them to go to any other outside places with their friends. They place restrictions on them. That results in conflicts between parents and kids. Parents should allow their kids to go wherever they want to go. Going to a skating park, or joining a sports team is the need of their body. Parents should encourage them to go play outside. It not only enhances their social skills but also makes parents and kids good friends with each other. In addition, parents can maintain closeness with their kids by spending quality time with them. By eating dinner with them or by watching a movie with them. Playing board games, and making crafts with them is another way of developing bonds with kids. Parents should ask the names of the kids their children are being friends with. In this way, the children trust their parents even more.

But giving time to a depressed, lonely person is also charity, helping a stranger is also a form of charity.

Helping a stranger 

In our society, most people avoid helping any of the masses.They just keep doing their work instead of lending a hand to the needy. I will give an example in this case if the people will see a man crying in the middle of the road for some sort of help. They will just gather around him as a source of entertainment. They will not take into account that he is disturbed and is going through some serious issues in his life. Sometimes a listener is enough to solve all your problems. At least it gives courage to the sufferer that someone is counting on him and believing in him and that he can do better with his life. If you are not capable of giving money then you can help him with your words only. Words surely help people to start believing in them. Take another example of helping a stranger to cross the road. If the stranger is older than you can lend him/her a hand. It is eventually your good deed. That will help you not only in this life but in the life hereafter as well. This is another form of charity.

Give Money 

Practicing charity mainly revolves around helping poor people. More appropriately helping people in need. It is highly mentioned in our holy book that “if you do deeds of charity openly it is well, but if you bestow it upon the needy secretly it will be even better for you” (2:271). Giving money to needy people shows love for humanity. And our religion Islam teaches us to fulfill human needs. The rights of humans are first to be asked after death. If a neighbor in your neighborhood is poor and cannot afford food for his family then his responsibility lays on you. You are responsible for him and his family. You have to make sure that no one around your circle faces a shortage of basic needs. This comes under the area of rights of neighbors. There are many Ahadees strictly commanding to take care of your neighbors. The integral step is that you should keep in mind that you are doing it for your Almighty lord and not for a public show. You should keep in mind that He will reward you for this in your afterlife. Charity not only brings peace but also improves your thoughts on humanitarian grounds. 

Help Orphans Get an Education 

According to Ahadees of our prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he highly focuses on the rights and taking care of orphans. One of his Hadees written in ibn e Majah is “ the best household is the one where orphans are treated well; the worst household is the one where orphans are ill-treated”. How can we help orphans? We can help them by helping them in getting an education. Taking to them politely. Giving them love. Understanding their emotions and needs. These all are kinds of charity. And charity is for Almighty lord not for people. As there is 215 verse of Surah e Bakrah “: “Whatever good you spend should be for parents, kinsmen, orphans, the needy and the wayfarer; and whatever good you do, Allah is all-aware of it.” and prophet Muhammad said that supporting orphans is a continuous form of charity. And all of your deeds comes to end when you di e except three. Sadkah e jaariya(continuous charity), knowledge from which benefit is gained, and a righteous child who prays. 

I must conclude this whole discussion by saying that charity is not helpful for your afterlife only but for your peace as well.
